Luke Taylor

Its 1992 and 90s rave culture gets into full swing with this rare original rave footage.

There were a few names from 90s rave culture that will never be forgotten. Artists like Krome and Time, The Prodigy and Subliminal Cuts created a sound that merged late 80s acid house with breakbeat, hardcore and jungle to tens of thousands of rave revellers. Labels likes Fantazia took rave culture to the next level by organising some of the largest events the UK had ever seen.

As BPM’s were getting faster the venues were getting bigger moving away from disused warehouses to large music venue size locations all across the UK. Launched in 1991 by James Perkin, Fantazia set out to create some of the most talked about and celebrated events that went down in rave history. From club nights at Manchester’s notorious Haçienda, Summer Time in Bournemouth and ‘One Step Beyond’ at Donnington Park in 1992. As far as rave events went, they didn’t get much bigger.

90s rave culture

‘One Step Beyond’ in 1992 had it all, from a castle shaped stage and a huge inflatable dragon, the Fantazia events mixed theme park inspirations with euphoria and ecstasy. Fantazia filmed all of their events with this footage taken from their VHS which accompanied the all day and night event. A total of 28,000 people danced the night away  with over 60 live DJ’s, fairground rides and enough MDMA to take on an entire football stadium.
