Ask anyone who follows the latest streetwear brands and Gosha Rubchinskiy will roll straight off their tongue.

When you think of cutting edge fashion, you don’t necessarily associate Russia as being at the forefront of it. However there is one label in particular that has enjoyed a huge rise in the past couple of years, Gosha Rubchinskiy along with the burgeoning Russian streetwear scene. Paying homage to his Soviet roots and with a very distinct 1980’s feel to his creations, Gosha has been one of the most talked about designers recently and his Spring/Summer collection for this year has been keenly anticipated.

Gosh Rubchinsky came about when, while struggling to establish his brand due to the sheer cost and lack of means to distribute, he was introduced to the president of French fashion label COMME Des GARÇONS, Adrian Joffe. Joffe saw the potential of the Russians designs and decided to help, catapulting the brand to a place Gosha didn’t think possible at the time. Even now, COMME Des GARÇONS run the label day to day with Rubchinsky preferring to focus solely on his designs in Moscow, while retaining the rights to his brand.

Gosha Rubchinskiy

For his new collection Gosha has recruited some retro specialists in FILA and Sergio Tacchini, with tracksuits and sweats being the main focus of the partnerships. As well as this the Gosha Rubchinskiy SS17 range features plenty of shirts, T-shirts and Sweaters all bearing the brands name (In Russian of course).

Italian sportswear designers Kappa have also got involved with the Russians summer collection. There are sports vests coupled with matching shorts that are reminiscent of 80s Athletics, as well as hoodies, track pants and t-shirts. Everything about Gosha Rubchinsky is simple yet effective and its popularity stems from it being exactly that.

The Gosha Rubchinskiy SS17 collection will be available shortly from selected retailers worldwide such as Dover Street Market. In other Gosha related news, the Russian brand is set to collaborate with adidas Football for AW17. Keep posted for further updates surrounding the Gosha Rubchinskiy x adidas Football collection.
