sneaker releases 2017

2017 has most certainly been a big year for sneakers with re-sale values of sought after styles hitting new records.

As the sneaker world continues to grow so does the resale market. Those who missed out on the likes of the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 ‘Semi Frozen Yellow’ only have to explore platforms like ebay to see just how high the demand really is. The sneaker scene doesn’t look like its going anywhere soon with 2018 already set to be another year of sought after sneaker releases and streetwear collaborations. We take a look at some of the most talked about sneaker releases for 2017 in no particular order.

undefeated x nike air max 97

Undefeated x Nike Air Max 97
20 years since its first drop, the Air Max 97 made a strong comeback this year, especially its crossover edition between LA-based Undefeated. Released in black, white and olive colourways, the model features patent leather and foam for comfort. The popping red and green stripes on the side panel are designed to pay tribute to the Italian national flag, with contrasting white ‘Undefeated’ lettering on the red. Dropped in November this year, this definitely has lived up to the expectation as one of the most highly anticipated collaborations.

Supreme x Nike Air More Uptempo

Supreme x Nike Air More Uptempo
The first Air More Uptempo was released in 1996 with the infamous ‘AIR’ in oversized letters wrapped around the shoe. This year, Supreme’s custom edition has replaced ‘AIR’ with its moniker ‘SUPREME’, dubbed the model “Suptempo”. Featuring red, black and gold three colourways, the Swoosh logo is engraved on both the tongue and vamp. The latest iteration preserves the function of the revered basketball shoes while integrates a sense of street culture brought by the American skate brand.

balenciaga triple S

Balenciaga Triple S
The once ‘uncool’ chunky sneaker trend is appearing to be thriving this year. High fashion brand Balenciaga moulded the Triple S model based on shoes for running, basketball and track & field to build the distinctive multi-layer thick sole. Utilising breathable mesh, calfskin leather and suede in its construction, this rendition promises to deliver comfort in style. The brand’s moniker is inscribed on its side panel with other decorative elements embracing the entirety of the shoe.

adidas Originals Archive Dublin size? Exclusive

adidas Original Dublin
Footwear retailer size? has exclusively brought the adidas Original Dublin sneaker back on the radar as a part of its Archive Collection in 2017. Initially dubbed as a member of the City series by adidas, the Dublin applies lightweight materials and minimal decorations. This model features a clean but stylish silhouette, and deep royal blue suede upper contrasting with the intense orange three stripes, all lying on top of the iconic gum midsole unit. Its relaunch at the stores has attracted many to queue up overnight in the chilly weather across the UK and Ireland.

Nike VaporMax Flyknit Day To Night

Nike Vapormax
The most distinctive element of the Vapormax is surely its exposed Air Bubble sole unit, which is the first ever in the world of footwear. Come in a wide spectrum of colourways, the bubble delivers lightweight, soft cushioning and stability to every step, while the upper Flyknit construction hugs the foot in place and offers ultimately comfortable experience. The model is designed for running as well as other daily purposes.

OFF WHITE x Nike Air Jordan 1

OFF WHITE x Nike Air Jordan 1
The sixth sneaker on the list marks the partnership between one of the most influential contemporary fashion brands OFF WHITE and sporthouse giant Nike. Inspired by the Chicago colourway of Air Jordan 1, the crossover rendition features contrasting orange and blue stitching on the signature black Swoosh logo and word details on the side panel. In addition, serving as a nod to the “Everything in Quotes” motif, every shoe lace is labelled as well as the midsole which has “AIR” inscribed. The Jordan 1 won the title ‘Shoe of the Year’ in 2017.

YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 Frozen Yellow

Yeezy Boost 350 V2 ‘Semi Frozen Yellow’
Unlike the usual tonal colours that the Yeezy Boost has been seen in, Kanye West and his partner adidas have decided to release an edition of the iconic shoes that features an almost-neon yellow colourway. Said to be the most limited release of the model, sneakerheads seemed to have a love-hate relationship with the new drop – refreshing colour choice but replacing the glow-in-the-dark outsole with a durable gum built? Many are doubtful about it. The talking around it has earned the sneaker a place in our top sneakers of 2017.

Yeezy Wave Runner 700

Yeezy Wave Runner 700
The Yeezy Wave Runner 700 is unmistakably of a different style than what Kanye West and adidas have released. Instead of the iconic seamless design that we have seen on the Yeezy Boost, this model presents a chunkier ‘dad’ aesthetic. Debuted in multiple colourways, the Runner has a mixed-texture upper sits on top of the cleanly decorated thick sole. The sneaker is finished off with a durable gum outsole and with extra comfort promised by the Boost Technology.

Patta x Vans Old Skool

Patta x Vans Mean Eyed Cat
Last but not least, the popular skate brand Vans has made it onto our list with its partnered project with Patta – Mean Eyed Cat. The casual low-top model is comprised of premium leather and canvas with a leather signature “Jazz Stripe”. The project name is inscribed on the midsole with Patta’s moniker printed on the canvas panel and the pair of shoelaces are labelled with ‘Team Patta’. Originally released exclusively in Japan, the edition was so sought-after by international fans that the brands decided to make its sale global.
