A plug-in hybrid option will soon be available alongside the recently revamped normal Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and its fastback cousin. The powertrain choice has been removed since the small luxury SUV’s makeover. The new hybrid, dubbed the 2025 GLC 350e, provides similar power but likely has a far more extended range.
The GLC 350e combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor, which produces 134 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque on its own. The combined output is also similar, at 313 horsepower, but the combined torque is much lower at 406 pound-feet. That modification could explain why its 0-60 mph time is now 6.6 seconds rather than 5.6 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard.
Despite its slower acceleration, the new PHEV’s 24.8-kWh battery pack should allow it to travel substantially further on a charge. That is 11.3 kWh more than the previous battery, almost doubling its capacity. On the WLTP loop, the GLC 350e offers an impressive 81-mile range on electricity alone. That will undoubtedly be reduced throughout the EPA test cycle, but it will improve over the previous model’s 22 miles.
A distance of roughly 40 miles sounds feasible. In addition to the enhanced range, AC charging speeds have increased from 7.4 kW to 11, and the GLC also enables DC fast charging at 60 kW.
