Mercedes-Benz discontinued production of the G-Class Cabriolet in 2013, and with the exception of the Maybach-branded G650 Landaulet, no other chopped-top G-Wagon has been produced since. According to the CEO, full-size adults can ride comfortably in the back even when there are relatively tall passengers in the front.
From the outside, the Refined Marques-designed G63 Cabriolet has proportions that are similar to those of the Mercedes-Benz-designed model. It’s clean, congruous, and could almost pass for a factory-developed version. Building it necessitates shortening the frame, but Al Bakry explains that his company is well prepared to take on such a massive project because it works on some of the world’s most luxurious vehicles on a regular basis.
The engine is a stock G63-sourced 4.0-liter V8 that’s twin-turbocharged and produces 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The Cabriolet is powered by a nine-speed automatic gearbox and retains the standard G’s full-time four-wheel-drive system.
Despite a base price of around $1.3 million, Refined Marques will build 20 units of the G63 Cabriolet, with 19 examples already spoken for. Al Bakry assures me that the 20th build slot will be filled quickly. In other words, if your name isn’t already on the list, you won’t get one. Refined Marques will work with each buyer to personalize the SUV, and no two of the 20 planned units will be identical.
