Google Messages is set to integrate WhatsApp video calling, making it easier for users to switch between messaging and video calls. A recent APK teardown of version 20250131 reveals that Google is actively developing this feature.
Users will soon see a video call icon in the top right corner when messaging someone on Google Messages. If both parties have WhatsApp installed, selecting this option will start a WhatsApp video call directly. If the recipient does not have WhatsApp, the call will default to Google Meet. Currently, the feature is limited to one-on-one conversations, but group call support might be added later.
This update aligns with Google’s efforts to make Messages a more powerful communication tool. Recent additions include secure cross-platform RCS messaging, dual SIM RCS support, a native backup tool, and emergency RCS support for 911 services.
Although the release date is not confirmed, the feature is in active development and could roll out soon. Google Messages continues to evolve, positioning itself as a strong competitor in the messaging space by integrating popular third-party services like WhatsApp. Stay tuned for further updates!
