North Carolina’s KANNAPOLIS — For the upcoming season, the Haas Formula One team will continue to drive Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg.
Haas said on Thursday that it was giving Magnussen and Hulkenberg a second season together despite their underwhelming season thus far this year.
As the season starts this weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix, the American-owned team have 11 points, placing them seventh in the constructors’ standings.
Hulkenberg earned three points by placing sixth in a sprint race at the Austrian GP in July, and he also secured the team’s highest finish with a seventh-place showing at the Australian GP in April.
Magnussen had one pole position and 25 points in the previous campaign, but this time around, he has just two points from two 10th-place finishes.
Team owner Guenther Steiner stuck with the Danish driver and anticipated improved results from both of them the next year.
“I’m overjoyed that Magnussen will return in Haas colors for his eighth season. He has made 113 starts for just our team, so we are aware of his strengths, Steiner continued.
“Nico’s addition brings us good fortune, tapping into his wealth of experience from nearly 200 Formula One starts.”
