It is no surprise that Europe is again enjoying some unique European vehicles that the United States will, unfortunately, miss out on. Today’s forbidden fruit are the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX and ID.7 GTX Tourer. If you were unaware, “GTX” refers to performance in VW’s EVs, so we have one hot hatch and one hot wagon to cover.
Power is increased to 282 horsepower, or 322 horsepower, if you choose the “Performance” model of the GTX. That power is directed solely to the rear wheels, resulting in a rear-drive hot hatchback capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds.
VW also includes a unique suspension with its DCC adaptive dampers; the battery pack is slightly larger for a more extended range than the original ID.3, and it comes with a unique front fascia, glossy black trim, and 20-inch wheels to distinguish it apart on the road.
Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain produces 335 horsepower, making it the most potent VW wagon ever. It narrowly beats out the sleek Arteon R Shooting Brake.
The design improvements include a GTX-specific front bumper and honeycomb grille, black-painted highlights throughout, and exceptional light graphics. You get customized 20-inch wheels, GTX-specific seats, and a steering wheel. The ID.7 cabin also features red highlights similar to those in the ID.3 GTX.
