In a highly anticipated event at Warner Bros Studios, Los Angeles, Elon Musk showcased Tesla’s latest innovation—the Cybercab, a fully autonomous robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals.
Musk arrived on stage in the vehicle, announcing that production is set for 2026 and the cost per unit will be less than $30,000. The Cybercab is designed to operate at a low cost of 20 cents per mile, thanks to inductive charging technology and reliance solely on artificial intelligence and cameras, eliminating the need for costly hardware like lidar.
Musk also revealed the Robovan, a self-driving vehicle capable of transporting up to 20 passengers, and reasserted Tesla’s transition from a mass-market automaker to an AI-powered robotics company.
While Tesla enthusiasts expressed excitement over the futuristic unveilings, some investors were left wanting more detailed timelines and business strategies. Despite skepticism, Musk confidently declared, “The autonomous future is here,” as he introduced the first fleet of 50 fully autonomous vehicles.
