WhatsApp is expanding its AI features by developing a Meta AI home screen widget for Android devices. This new addition, spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta 2.25.1.27, will allow users to access Meta AI without opening the app.
The widget will feature two interactive sections:
- Text Input: Tap to ask the Meta AI chatbot anything.
- Camera Icon: Snap a photo and share it instantly with Meta AI for image analysis, editing, or content explanation.
However, the widget will be optional and limited to regions where Meta AI is already available. Currently, AI-powered features, such as Llama 3.1-based conversational tools, translation, image generation, and summarization, are only accessible in certain countries.
This new widget aligns with WhatsApp’s AI strategy, which includes a dedicated AI Chats tab in the bottom navigation bar for eligible users. While the feature is still in beta, it highlights WhatsApp’s goal to make Meta AI more accessible and convenient for its massive global user base.
There’s no confirmed timeline for the public rollout, but as testing progresses, users can expect broader availability in the coming months. Keep an eye on WhatsApp updates for more AI-powered innovations!
