Google has begun rolling out its July 2024 security update for Pixel devices, aiming to enhance security and address critical vulnerabilities. This update arrives promptly following last month’s delays, indicating Google’s commitment to timely fixes. Key devices receiving the update include Pixel 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Tablet, Fold, 8, 8 Pro, and 8a.

The update tackles a total of 10 security issues dated July 1 and an additional 19 issues dated July 5, with vulnerabilities ranging from high to critical severity. Notably, the critical CVE-2024-31320 vulnerability addresses potential bypasses of user prompts by third-party apps under specific conditions.

Beyond security enhancements, the update includes fixes for various bugs affecting Pixel devices. These include improvements to camera stability, system performance, and user interface glitches like the back gesture navigation.

Pixel 8 series users receive a unique .005 build, while other devices are updated to .004 this month. Telus Australia has also rolled out specific builds for Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and 8a models. Users are encouraged to check for the update via Settings > System > Software updates to ensure their devices are protected and operating smoothly.
