Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed roadster concept is the first Mythos exclusive

Finally, we understand what Mercedes’ incredibly exclusive halo cars Mythos will provide. Before this weekend’s Formula One Grand Prix in Monaco, the Germans unveiled the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed concept. Starting with what we believe to be the most recent Mercedes-AMG SL, designers removed the top rather than simply lowering it, creating the PureSpeed, a modern homage to old-school roadsters like the Ferrari Monza SP1 and Aston Martin V12 Speedster.

Aside from the apparent lack of glass and roof, one subtle touch is the #10 on the front fenders, which refers to the racing number of the supercharged 2.0-liter Merc that won the 1924 Targa Florio.

The PureSpeed comes with two bespoke helmets, and the company claims that donning them provides “a field of vision as in Formula One.”

The Le Mans red color on top blends into a graphite gray and exposed carbon fiber rear fascia and skirt surrounding the car, like the Mercedes-AMG One, as does the low, broad front intake. The carbon fiber-covered wheels point to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 car.

We have yet to receive any information about the powertrain. We will assume Mythos is going to the top of the AMG powertrain tree with this, which means the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 hybrid from the AMG SL 63 S E Performance, which produces a combined 805 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque.

The production version is planned for next year and will only be available to 250 committed Mercedes-Benz aficionados and collectors. If the figure holds, Mercedes-AMG will produce 25 fewer PureSpeeds than it did the One.
