Next Emoji Coming to iOS Could Include Face With Eye Bags, Shovel, Fingerprint, Splatter and More

New Emoji Coming to iOS

Apple often adds new emojis to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices in response to Unicode Consortium emoji catalog updates, and seven new emojis could appear in late 2024 or early 2025.

The following emoji characters are being considered: face with bags under eyes, fingerprint, leafless tree, root vegetable, harp, shovel, and spatter.

The Unicode Consortium has begun the beta evaluation session for Unicode 16, which contains new emoji characters. The beta period will end on July 2, and Unicode 16 will be released with the additional characters formally accepted.

Smartphone manufacturers like Apple frequently take several months to generate artwork for new emoji characters that are authorized, so we will see these new emoji after iOS 18 is released. Apple will likely add the extra characters around March 2025, when iOS 18.4 is released.

Apple last launched a new emoji with the iOS 17.4 update in March 2024. Lime, an edible brown mushroom, a phoenix, a broken chain, shaking head vertically (as in a “yes” nod) and horizontally (a “no” head shake) are among the new characters in iOS 17.4.
