Ola Electric, a leader in the electric scooter market, is gearing up to launch its first all-electric motorcycle in India by early 2025. CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced this exciting news during a press conference in Mumbai, held in conjunction with Ola’s IPO announcement.
Ola Electric, known for popular models like the Ola S1 Pro and Ola S1 Air, is expanding its horizons to include electric motorcycles. The company plans to unveil detailed information about these motorcycles on August 15, 2024.
According to Aggarwal, the new models will feature some of the largest batteries ever seen in Indian electric motorcycles, developed in-house by Ola Electric.
The upcoming motorcycles will initially focus on affordable commuter models, priced between ₹1-1.50 lakh, with premium variants expected to cost over ₹2 lakh. The electric motorcycles will utilize advanced 4680 battery cells produced at Ola’s Gigafactory, which aims to lower costs and improve margins.
Ola’s entry into the electric motorcycle market reflects its ambition to tap into the two-wheeler segment, which constitutes two-thirds of India’s total two-wheeler sales. Despite a slower adoption of electric motorcycles compared to scooters, Ola remains optimistic about the growth potential in this sector.
