Apple Launches New ‘Car Key Tests’ app for iPhone as Adoption Lags

Apple Car Key Tests app for iPhone

Last week, Apple released a new “Car Keys Testing” app on the App Store, which could be an indication that the corporation is speeding up the adoption of Car Keys. The app is released through Apple’s developer account, although it is currently not displayed. This means you can only go to it through a direct link, not through the App Store or Apple’s account page.

The app is designed for automakers to test interoperability with Apple’s Auto Key function. According to Apple, the app allows those companies to “test and evaluate” requirements for the Car Key certification process via its Made-For-iPhone initiative.

Apple has the following to say regarding the Car Key Testing app:

Only MFi Licensees may utilize it. Use the Car Keys Tests app to test and confirm the connection, performance, and other critical requirements for the certification process of automobiles that use Apple digital car keys technology.

In the past, Apple may have privately distributed this software directly to Car Key partners. Uploading the software to the App Store simplifies the process and makes it easier to distribute the app to testing partners.
