New York – Genesis continues its New York unveiling with the revelation of a planned series of performance vehicles. They will all be known as “Magma” automobiles, after the bright orange color that emerged on the GV80 Coupe Concept at last year’s New York Auto Show. The first Magma vehicles will be the all-electric GV60 and the midsize G80 sedan.
The GV60 is the program’s driving force and will be the first Magma vehicle to be released internationally rather than as a limited-run model. Aside from its bright orange paint, it has broader fender flares, larger grilles, vents for battery and powertrain cooling, canards, fins, and a rear wing for increased downforce and stability. Even the wheels boast aerodynamic benefits, with the covers channeling air to cool the brakes.
Based on the Kia EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, it appears to have dual motors producing at least the Kia’s 576 horsepower, if not the Ioniq 5 N’s max 641. Naturally, it will most likely have sport-tuned adaptable suspension.
However, the GV60 is one of many Magma cars on the way. There is also the mean-looking G80. It receives a similar makeover, including a more comprehensive body kit, larger grilles, and even more hood vents. The entire vehicle is lowered, with very tight wheel arch gaps, and the seats are all brightly painted.
The GV80 is a natural continuation, given that the concept for its fastback variation heavily influenced these other vehicles. Moreover, GV70 and G70 would seem like reasonable additions later.
