A 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 S Cabriolet that was restored and entered for the 2023 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance marked a significant accomplishment for McPherson College, a Kansas liberal arts college renowned for its four-year degree in vehicle restoration. But it wasn’t simply displayed; it also placed second in the competition, which is a noteworthy accomplishment for any restoration business, let alone one that employs apprentices.
This also satisfies the college’s 2013 objective to restore, display, and compete with an automobile at Pebble Beach. A student-restored car from McPherson College will compete in Pebble Beach by 2023, according to Amanda Montgomery Gutierrez, Provost, and Vice President for Auto Restoration at the college.
Many students have benefited from the automobile as a result of the project’s five-year duration, with some using it for senior projects and internships. Naturally, some students came and graduated before the car was finished.
McPherson College has had a successful year. The college has met its $500 million gift match goal. That was then expanded upon after it was met. The endowment at the college is now $1,592,000,000. This is in addition to the Ferrari Daytona gift.
