Rivian reveals R3, R3X electric SUVs as surprise siblings to R2

Stellantis Chinese EV strategy

The firm’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, revealed the R3, the new ute’s unexpected brother, during unveiling the Rivian R2, a scaled-down version of the R1S electric SUV. It’s pretty adorable, sharing a face with the R1S and R2; however, its dimensions are noticeably different. If that was not a bonus enough, Rivian also unveiled a sleek R3X variant.

The R3 shares many features with the R2, including a frunk, two glove compartments, and a flashlight hidden in the door.

Additionally, Scaringe demonstrated the R3X, another car, on stage. The R3X is based on the R3, but it has a sportier tri-motor arrangement, a wider stance, and bigger wheels and tires.

The disclosed sample is easily differentiated from the R3 thanks to its vibrant orange mirror caps and interior. According to Scaringe, Rivian describes this space as “rugged fun,” utilizing intriguing textures and materials like cork and different weaves.

Furthermore, Rivian said on its Facebook page that the R3 will start at a lower price than the R2. The R3 will begin at a lower starting price than the R2, which will be $45,000. The question is, of course, to what extent less? Over the next few months, if not years, we will watch for responses to that query and additional information regarding the R2, R3, and R3X.
