Trump attended the Miami Grand Prix as McLaren’s guest

Trump at Miami Grand Prix

Former President Donald Trump attended Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix as a guest of McLaren. Trump stepped out into the paddock, attracting much attention before entering the McLaren garage.

After waving to the audience from McLaren’s pit box, Trump spoke with McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. He also met with F1’s Stefano Domenicali and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Of course, McLaren won the race, which was unexpected given Max Verstappen’s domination this season and his performance in qualifying and the Sprint race earlier in the weekend—see the race recap here.

Following the race, Trump contacted Lando Norris. Norris later told the reporters that he was “honored” that Trump came to speak with him. He further claimed that Trump informed him he was his good luck charm.

As Norris crossed the finish line in Miami, the TV announcers announced his victory, exclaiming, “Norris trumps Lando.”

Trump’s Formula One participation comes at a tense time for him, as he faces a criminal trial for hush payments. His presence elicited mixed feelings on both sides of the aisle, with crowds cheering and booing as he walked out of the garage into pit lane.

Norris elaborated on his meeting with the former president when asked what he thought of Trump’s presence at the post-race driver’s press conference.
