Instagram users either had trouble logging in or noticed a sudden drop in followers as a result of their followers’ accounts appearing to be suspended.
Many users were informed by an Instagram outage on Monday morning that their accounts would be suspended starting on October 31. The problem is real, and Meta says it’s being investigated.
Instagram announced on its Twitter account that an outage that began on Monday morning has been fixed. Instagram locked users out during the outage and informed many of them that their accounts would be suspended on October 31, 2022. The majority of reports of the problem appeared to come from iPhone users, with some claiming that their app recently crashed and became unusable prior to an update earlier this morning.
We’ve now fixed the bug that was preventing users in different parts of the world from accessing their accounts and temporarily changing the number of followers for some users, according to Instagram. “Sorry!” Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, also apologized for the outage, which was first acknowledged by the platform on Twitter at 10:14 AM ET, but a resolution wasn’t made public until six hours later, at 6 PM ET.
Around the time Instagram acknowledged the problem, reports on Downdetector reached over 7,000, but they have leveled off since then.
At around 10:15 a.m. ET, a quick look at Cristiano Ronaldo’s Instagram account revealed that it appeared to have lost 3 million followers from the 493 million it had just one day before, but that number is now back up to 493 million. Instagram’s primary account was down by over a million followers.
