WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is available for a variety of models as well as Android smartphones. However, the Meta-owned platform occasionally discontinues support for older phones. WhatsApp will stop working on dozens of smartphones, including Apple’s iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c, in a matter of days.
According to GizChina, WhatsApp will cease to function on nearly 50 different devices on December 31, 2022. The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c are among the devices on the list.
Unfortunately, this is not surprising given that WhatsApp discontinued its app for iOS 10 and iOS 11 in October. This meant that iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c owners could no longer install the app’s latest version.
The iPhone 5 was released in 2012 with iOS 6, and it has been updated to iOS 10.3.4 as of 2019. The iPhone 5c, which was released in 2013 with iOS 7, has also been updated to iOS 10.3.4 until 2019. This is due to the fact that the iPhone 5c uses the same A6 chip as the iPhone 5. Of course, users with an iPhone 5s or later running iOS 10 or iOS 11 can update the operating system to continue using WhatsApp.
Aside from the iPhone models mentioned above, WhatsApp will also cease to function on the HTC Desire 500, Lenovo A820, LG Optimus, and Samsung Galaxy S3. Users will no longer be able to send WhatsApp messages or make WhatsApp calls from these phones after December 31.
