Apple is getting ready to update and possibly broaden the selection of iPad and Mac users’ external displays. According to a recent report, the business is developing “multiple new external monitors” with Apple Silicon inside, including an updated Pro Display XDR.

Apple currently offers the Studio Display and the Pro Display XDR as its two external monitor options. The price of the former, which was released earlier this year, is $1,599. The price of the latter, which was released in 2019, is a whopping $4,999.

Apple has “multiple new external monitors in development,” according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in the most recent issue of his Power On newsletter. This is a newer model of the Pro Display XDR, which would be compatible with Apple Silicon’s brand-new Mac Pro. According to Gurman, it’s possible that the new Pro Display XDR won’t be unveiled until after the new Mac Pro:

Apple is also developing a number of new external displays. Including an update to the Pro Display XDR that debuted in 2019 along with the Intel Mac Pro. However, given that the Mac Pro is in a more advanced stage of development than the monitor, it’s possible that the company will release its following high-end display after the Mac Pro.

Additionally, according to Gurman, each of these new external displays will have Apple Silicon chips inside. It is to reduce the need for the attached computer’s resources for the screens. But given that the Studio Display houses an A13 Bionic chip. And an intriguing 64GB of storage, this shouldn’t be a surprise.
