Pakistan Launches Its First Fully Digital Transport System in Rawalpindi

Pakistan Ranked 198th Globally in Internet Speed: Report

Pakistan is making a significant leap in public transport with the introduction of its first fully digital transport system in Rawalpindi.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) is developing the necessary software for this groundbreaking project, which aims to modernize and streamline the city’s transportation network.

The new system will feature a control room and an e-tag system installed at the Pirwadhai Bus Terminal. This technology will collect detailed information on all vehicles, including registration details, ownership, vehicle color, and driver’s licenses.

The control room will monitor vehicles as they enter and exit, ensuring that only those meeting safety and service standards are allowed to leave.

Modeled after successful systems in cities like Paris and London, this initiative is set to improve road safety and vehicle fitness. It also offers a platform for citizens to submit online complaints about public transport services.

If successful, this pilot project in Rawalpindi could be expanded to other cities in Punjab, marking a new era of digital transport in Pakistan. Senior officials from the IT and Transport departments are expected to finalize the project today, September 2.
