According to WABetaInfo, the most recent WhatsApp Desktop beta features several animated emoji. These emoji appear in the chat in a larger size, similar to the Telegram ones. They are also distributed automatically when an animated version of an emoji becomes available. This implies that users will no longer be able to select between the standard emoji and the animated WhatsApp version.
While animated emoji will undoubtedly make talks more entertaining for some, others may be annoyed by the fact that they cannot be turned off. Telegram, for example, allows users to disable animated emoji, but the beta version of WhatsApp does not.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s animated emoji feature is now “under development” for the Web and Desktop versions of WhatsApp. The platform also intends to add these emoji to its iPhone and Android apps, according to the article. However, it is unclear when this will occur.
It’s worth mentioning that when Telegram launched animated emoji, Apple rejected the app update since the animated versions were based on Apple’s emoji design. To have the upgrade authorised, Telegram had to remove a pack of animated emoji that looked quite similar to Apple’s.
