YouTube admits that its iOS app is crashing and says it is working on a fix

For some users, YouTube’s iOS mobile app is currently unavailable. The crashes started on Wednesday afternoon, when thousands of iOS users reported that the app would close soon after they opened it.

Users also reported seeing the message “A serious error occurred” on the app.

TechCrunch attempted to replicate the issue and encountered similar issues. We opened the YouTube app and discovered that after 30 seconds of watching a video, the app would close. We then reopened the app and resumed watching the video without incident.

The company first acknowledged the issue on Wednesday at 2:19 PM ET, and the problems appear to be ongoing at the time of writing.

As of 4:23 PM ET, YouTube responded to a Twitter user’s “thank you” response after directly informing them that a fix was in the works. It hasn’t said anything else about what caused the problem or when it expects to have it fixed.
